Review
At the time of writing this review, my truck isn’t exactly weatherproof, especially considering it doesn’t even have windows in it. I used to keep it in the garage but, with some other projects needing the garage space over the winter, the truck is going to have to sit outside. In order to protect it from the elements, I purchased the 5 Layer Gold Shield car cover from carcover.com.
The car cover came with the cover, instillation instructions, antenna patch, lock, keys, cable, rope and storage bag (Which isn’t practical in my opinion but, I’ll get to that).
Since my truck doesn’t have a tonneau cover on the bed I knew I was going to have to find a way to prevent water or snow from pooling and filling this area. The weight would be significant and would surely damage the cover. I had some old shelving laying around that I threw across the bed to help with this issue.
This car cover installs like any other car cover on the market. There is a tag on the front of the cover labeled “FRONT” so you know which way to orient it.
The CarCover.com cover does fit a little more loosely onto the truck compared to other covers I have used. I do not mind as it allows for aftermarket accessories such as bumpers, winches, and light bars. This cover also does not have mirror pockets. This was not a deal breaker for me as I was debating on installing tow mirrors onto this truck anyways.
This cover has two straps sewn into it on the front and rear and a cable that holds down the cover in the middle of the vehicle. The cable can be fed into two plastic eyelets which have a piece of fabric behind them to prevent them from scratching your vehicle.
The lock is nothing special. It’ll help keep the cable in place but it’s more of a deterrent. If someone wants to get into your vehicle they’ll be able to do so with ease.
The bag that came with this cover can be used but, doesn’t have any wiggle room. It was extremely hard to stuff the cover into it and there’s no keeping it folded nicely while doing so. I would recommend purchasing a larger bag or storage bin to keep this in.
Overall I must say that I am quite pleased with this cover. I have a 5 layer cover made by Quadratec and the build quality of these two covers are very similar. Unfortunately the carcover.com cover is more expensive than a lot of competitors. In my opinion their selection of vehicles makes up for this. They have a cover for just about every car made and even have covers for RVs, hearses, and limousines!
If I had the need for another car cover I would not hesitate to purchase from CarCover.com again.
