ABOUT
This is my 1996 GMC Sierra 1500. This was my first vehicle and the vehicle I learned to drive on. This truck has been extremely reliable over the years but, has had it’s issues like any car. The more I tore into this thing, the more I became addicted to turning wrenches.
Over the years I’ve mde a lot of cosmetic changes to the truck. I lifted the truck about 3″, added clearance lights, put on a set of Micky Thompsin wheels and tires, upgraded the sound system and a whole lot more.
Things started to get interesting a few years back when the cab corners and rockers started rusting out. I paid to have them replaced and the truck repainted but, within a couple years the rust was back. I decided to take matters into my own hands and repair this once and for all. As I tore into it I discovered that new metal was just welded over what was left of the inner rockers. It’s no wonder they only lasted a couple years.
As I was working on all the rust (it did take me a few years) the truck developed a misfire. I ran some tests on it and discovered that one of the exhaust valves was leaking. I took it to shop they told me the cost of the repair would exceed the cost of the truck. Not willing to let my baby go, I tore the edge down and removed both heads. I discovered a bent valve and replaced it. While I was at it I replaced all the gaskets and spider injectors. The truck runs like a champ now!
Unfortunately I haven’t had a ton of time to work on the truck but, I do have some big plans and ideas for this thing. It’ll be making its way onto the channel before you know it!
