ABOUT
Knowing that I was going to be getting some projects and wanted to have the ability to move around vehicles that didn’t run, I started looking at car trailers.
In my search, I stumbled across some Lamar trailers and instantly knew that I had to have one. I really liked the build quality and looks of them. I also liked that I was able to get the trailer with all the accessories and built exactly how I wanted.
I decided to pull the trigger on a 2023 22′ long car trailer. There is a video if you would like to see a walk around of it.
Let’s just say that I’m not your typical person. I actually bought this trailer before having a vehicle that I was able to pull it behind. I wasn’t completely insane though, I had access to my dad’s F-250 and was able to borrow it anytime I wanted.
Of course, I decided to get it fully loaded with the spare tire mount, spare tire, toolbox and winch mount. Is any of this stuff hard to install? No, but color matching the power coating it and making it look good is nearly impossible. I was very happy I went this route.
Despite the trailer being fully loaded, there was a few more things I wanted to do to it. The first thing that drove me insane is the toolbox lock. I’ve been trying to simply my life and adding another key to my key ring was not an option.
I fabricated some custom latches for a PacLock cam lock. This made it so that the key would match the spare tire lock and multiple other locks I have around the house. I made a video on this project.
Obviously, the trailer did not have a winch on it which is completely unacceptable. Especially since it came with a winch mount. I can never seem to do anything without going over the top. So, in typical Busted Beaters fashion, I decided that if I was going to install a winch, I was also going to install a complete solar system to power it. This included custom fabricating a toolbox light mount, adding some load lights, and a custom switch box to hold all the electronics. If you haven’t seen the video. Be sure to check it out. I’m pretty proud of the build.
I have a couple more improvements I’d like to make to the trailer so stay tuned for that. I hope you’re as excited as me to see what kind of hoopties I bring home on this thing!
PARTS USED IN THIS BUILD
ELECTRICAL
This panel was a perfect fit on the trailer toolbox.
This solar charge controller keeps the battery charged and is waterproof which is crucial if mounting it in a place that can get wet.
A powerful power outlet that can even charge some laptops.
12v accessory sockets allow a wide variety of things to be powered off the system.
Using a fuse block like this can really simplify wiring.
Fuses work well ant the kit has a great variety of amperages.
Pretty expensive but critical if you don't want to back feed electricity to another electrical system.
Perfect vibration dampener and spacer to mount the solar panel.
Helps manage cables and keep them out of the way.
Creates a watertight seal when running wiring through sheet metal.
Protects wiring and can really clean up the look.

LIGHTING
Security
This lock takes some serious modifications to work with the toolbox but is by far one of our most favorite upgrades.
Having all our locks keyed to be the same has been a gamechanger!
We love how these locks can be keyed the same.
Used to lock the spare tire to the trailer.
